Passing parameter from a webpage to a report

I am developing a website which need to allow user to pass through several webpages for criteria selection and generate a report base on the selected criteria finally.

Anyone know how to pass the selected value from a webpage to the SQL statement or stored procedure which used to generate the report? Or there are other methods to do so?look at the rendering methods of RS - there's one by URL where you can pass the parameters via URL and request the report.|||I believe you simply build a querystring and append the parameters and values to the end of the querystring.|||Thanks for your kindly reply.

I have another related question see whether anyone can help. Base on my current knowledge, I know that we can pass one value for each parameter. E.g. countryID=20. If I want to pass multiple values for this parameter, e.g. countryID=20, 21, 25, ... How can I do so? Also, how should I set it in report designer for this purpose?|||Can you explain little more in detail (perhaps with some sampoe) ? Is your data in the format 20,21,25 for each record ?|||You could pass in a string like you describe. You would need to have logic in your report or stored procedure to handle such a request, though...|||In my report, there is a chart to compare sales performance between several products which are selected by user. The number of selected products is not fixed. I need to pass multiple productID into the report.

Also, I face a problem that ...seem I can't pass parameters into SQL functions to build dataset. Is it a rule? The error msg is "Syntax error or access violation.". My statement is as follows:

select * from getTable(@.productID)

Notes: getTable is a user-defined function.|||so what u can do

Select * from table where productid in (@.productid)|||In the following statement, getTable is a function with many calculation.

select * from getTable(@.productID)

If I use the one below, I can't get what I want. Also, seem can't be a string e.g. "12, 13, 14"
Select * from table where productid in (@.productid)|||so just pass the value in paenthesis

like '12,13,14'. it will definitely work.

If it is a function. then it should return the value same as u mentioned like "12,13,14"
if u can make it " '12,13,14' " . Then you can pass on values.

Passing Multivalued Parameters through URL interface

Hi,
We are trying to generate report by passing parameter values through url
In our report, we have a multivalued parameter named "ABC", having values
say, val1, val2 and val3.
When try to generate the report with parameter ABC having values as val1 and
val2 using the url mentioned below, we find that the values are not selected
and report is not rendered.
http://<machinename>/ReportServer/Pages/ReportViewer.aspx?<reportpath>0&rs:Command=Render¶meter=val1,val2
This is working fine for singlevalued parameters.
Thanks in advanced,
Sumit PilankarA comma separated list of values in the QueryString doesn't do it.
I know one way to do it, but it isn't real elegant.
rather than this:
¶m=val1,val2,val3
you do this:
¶m=val1¶m=val2¶m=val3
Andy Potter|||how about UrlEncode(val1,val2,val3)?|||Thank you very much for the suggestion, it worked for me.:)

UrlEncode is required, but we need to form the URL as Andy Potter said.

Passing in a Parameter by URL but Not displaying in tool bar

Currently we're using an application and the Report Viewer to "view"
our reports. One report that we need to generate is solely based on
the user's SalesRepCode. So what we want is that each user select a
report and then pass there SalesRepCode which we get from the
application, through the query string to Reporting Services to
generate that user's specific report. We don't want to give the user
the ability to use another user's SalesRepCode so we don't specify a
prompt for this parameter in the report parameters dialog boxes. This
is how I'm passing the SalesRepCode value to reporting services (I
know that the query string can be modified so the security on this is
weak. If you have an alternative solution I would love to hear it).
Is there anyway to pass in a parameter and not have it displayed on
the toolbar?
http://localhost/ReportServer?/IRBReports/InstallationStatus&SalesRepCode=123ShowMe
This is the error I'm receiving
The report parameter 'SalesRepCode' is read-only and cannot be
modified. (rsReadOnlyReportParameter) Get Online HelpIn order to pass a parameter via the query string but hide it in the toolbar
you will need to be running Reporting Services SP1. This is a new feature
in SP1.
If you have SP1 then edit the parameter properties of the report via the
Report Manager and check "Prompt User" and clear out the value of "Prompt
String" for your SalesRepCode parameter.

I installed the SP1 and tried what you suggested. It still doesn't
work. When I go into the reports manager and select my report and
then select parameters from the left side the list of parameters
appears. For my parameter has default is checked but there is no
value in the default text box. Prompt user is unchecked and prompt
string is SalesRepCode:
I still get the same error stating that the parameter is readonly.

1) Check the "Prompt User" checkbox so it is active
2) Remove the "SalesRepCode" value inside the "Prompt String" text field so
that the field is empty
3) Apply and try feeding the code via the query string.

didn't finish my paragraph.
Erik
I did what you said the first time. I removed the text in the "Prompt
String" text field, but when I pressed the "Apply" button I received a
warning for every other text box saying "A value is required." Because
all of my default text boxes were blank. Now I have
calculations/expressions for those default values in my reports so I
didnt' know exactly what to do so just for a test I placed default
values there and tried to submit the value via query string.
Unfortunatly I still receive a read-only error when I submit it. I
have installed the SP, I changed the parameters in the report manager.
Could it be another setting or maybe its machine specific?

BUT now is there any way to pass a parameter without using the query
string. The SalesRepCode I'm trying to pass is sensitive information
and I don't want it in the query string. If you've got any

variable User!userid and create a query to get the salesrepcode from a
table.

Passing a report parameter from a Visual C# form to a report parameter

Request is to have a Requirement number from the requirement form generate a report in Reporting Services with the requirement number as a filter.

I can set up the parameter - how does the value get there? Should I be asking this question in the Visual C# group?

Thanks!

Terry B

I hope this this article will help.

pass xml dataset to sql server

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum or not, if not can someone direct me to the correct one?

I have a dataset that is generate from C#, the data set is XML format (generated from .NET) and has the column names of the table and data that I need to insert into. Is it possible to pass the dataset as is and have a stored procedure parse out the data that I need?

example: the xml looks like this

<NewDataSet>

<Table>

<CustID>1</CustID>

<CustName>Larry</CustName>

</Table>

</NewDataSet>

Is possible to pass this dataset to SQL just like this and have a stored procedure parse it out?

Maybe something like this:

declare @.myXml xml
set @.myXml =
'<NewDataSet>
<Table>
<CustID>1</CustID>
<CustName>Larry</CustName>
</Table>
</NewDataSet>'

declare @.iDoc int

exec sp_xml_preparedocument @.iDoc output, @.myXml

select * from
openxml (@.iDoc, 'NewDataSet/Table', 1)
with ( CustID integer 'CustID/text()',
CustName varchar(10) 'CustName/text()'
)

/*
CustID CustName
-- -
1 Larry
*/

Sure you can. There are new features in SQL Server 2005 regarding XML.

declare @.x xml

set @.x = N'

<NewDataSet>

<Table>

<CustID>1</CustID>

<CustName>Larry</CustName>

</Table>

</NewDataSet>

'

select

t.c.query('./CustID').value('.', 'int') as CustID,

t.c.query('./CustName').value('.', 'varchar(50)') as CustID

from

@.x.nodes('NewDataSet/Table') t(c)

go
