Passing paramers in URL to Sharepoint Deep Integrated SSRS Report

I am currently struggling with this one, can anyone help with this supposedly
simple problem.
I am trying to pass report parameters to a Report that exists on A
Sharepoint Site that has had SSRS Deep Intergration applied. Can someone give
me the typical URL to do this, and let me know the parameter settings I need
to set against the RDL.
Reading the msdn stuff suggests it is as simple as adding
¶mname=paramvalue
to the URL that points to the RDL file, but my parameters are being ignored
totally. I have tried playing with the Prompt and default settings of the RDL
file, but whatever I try my URL passed parameter fails. Is there even some
security settings somewhere along the chain that is preventing this query
string interpretation?
This must be something very simple and straight forward for any Sharepoint
SSRS Deep Integration experts out there (are there any of those out there
yet?)
Maybe Microsoft could even assist on this one under the 48 hours response
promise this time?

I would like to know what URL you are using to access the Report.
You could see that when we use the URL to access the erport, we use the
ReportServer.
So you may try to use like this:
http://servername/reportserver?/Sales/YearlySalesSummary&rs:Command=Render&r
s:ShowHideToggle=13¶metername=value

thread. The problem is stemming from the fact that in SP2 when you
configure a server for "integrated mode with SharePoint" and not
"native mode", reports (the rdl files) are stored directly in a
SharePoint document library and you can no longer load them using the
"/reportserver?" type syntax for the URL. You have to reference them
in the document library, not on the report server. Now, I've gotten a
parameterless report to render but if an RDL file needs parameters it
ignores any parameters I set in the URL string. The report loads with
this error:
"Report parameter values must be specified before the report can be
displayed. Choose parameter values in the parameters area and click
the Apply button."
which is not true because I did pass them. Here is a sample URL I use:
https://www.mycompany.com/mysite/_layouts/ReportServer/RSViewerPage.aspx?RelativeReportUrl=/mysite/myDocumentLibrary/test.rdl&KeyDate=10/5/2007
This report has only 1 parameter (KeyDate) and it ignores what I pass
in the URL string. PLEASE HELP. I've posted questions about this since
April 07 and nobody has given me a solution yet. I can of course send
parameters to a report using the "Jump To Report" method within the
report designer, but many people like myself prefer to use the "Jump
To URL" method because we can use javascript to launch the drilldown
report in a new window. That's the only reason I don't use "Jump To
Report" since "Jump To Report" always replaces the currently loaded
report with the drilldown report. Very annoying. If the RS development
team would add that feature to let us selectively open a drilldown in
a new window, then this issue would be solved. I've wanted that
feature since RS 2000 and still nothing yet.
Another related problem is that I used to be able to use the Globals
collection such as Globals.ReportName, Globals.ReportServerURL, etc
but they no longer work in SharePoint integrated mode. This is a big
problem too, because I now have to hard code my www.company.com URL in
every drilldown link of every report. That's a big maintainance issue
especially when going from a development to a production server URL.
So far, I'm disappointed with SharePoint integrated mode because of
these shortcomings. SSRS SP2 highly publicized the fantastic
integration with SharePoint, wo-ho! And I adopted and bought into it
and moved our reports to this mode. But these drawbacks are terribly
disappointing. Plus, the reports render much slower because of the 2
server model, but I'm disgressing here...
Does anyone out there using SharePoint mode have answers to these

Passing OLAP Parameters Within a URL

Hi there!

My report uses an OLAP query with a (multi-valued) parameter, the MDX generated query is something like "...ON ROWS FROM ( SELECT ( STRTOSET(@.Region, CONSTRAINED) ) ON COLUMNS FROM [cube]) ...".

The report works fine using the Report Manager frontend. Now I want to pass this parameter directly within the query string:

https://servername/ReportServer?/PathTo/MyReport&rs:Command=Render&rs:Format=HTML4.0&Region=[foo].[bar 123].&[baz]

But I cannot get Reporting Services to accept the parameter instead of complaining about a missing parameter value. I've already tried quoting the braces, spaces, and the ampersand, putting the dimension in curly braces and/or quotes... No success.

How do I quote this parameter correctly?

I do this befor but so it was as follow

Report server URL(http://Machinename/reportserver/) + Reports Folder (MyReports/)+Reportname (My report) +"&Firstparametername"+Value+"&secondparametername"+Value

it will be like this

http://Machinename/reportserver/(MyReports/My repor&Firstparametername=Value1&secondparametername=Value

Normal query parameters work fine, I just can't pass OLAP parameters (dimensions like "[foo].[bar 123].&[baz]") this way. ReportServer won't accept them, I think it doesn't like the way I'm trying to quote them...

It was indeed quoting related, I must have confused hex with decimal notation in my earlier attempts.

All you have to do is urlencode the parameter names and values. Here is how to quote correctly:

InputEncoded[%5B]%5D&%26spaces+ or%20

Or you let ASP.Net do the job:

1string encodedParam = HttpContext.Current.Server.UrlEncode(myParam);

So ...&Region=[foo].[bar 123].&[baz]... becomes...&Region=%5Bfoo%5D.%5Bbar+123%5D.%26%5Bbaz%5D...

If you want this parameter to have multiple values, just use it multiple times in your URL: ...&Region=%5Bfoo%5D.%5Bbar+123%5D.%26%5Bbaz%5D&Region=%5Bfoo%5D.%5Bbar+123%5D.%26%5Bheureka%5D...

Passing Multivalued Parameters through URL interface

Hi,
We are trying to generate report by passing parameter values through url
In our report, we have a multivalued parameter named "ABC", having values
say, val1, val2 and val3.
When try to generate the report with parameter ABC having values as val1 and
val2 using the url mentioned below, we find that the values are not selected
and report is not rendered.
http://<machinename>/ReportServer/Pages/ReportViewer.aspx?<reportpath>0&rs:Command=Render¶meter=val1,val2
This is working fine for singlevalued parameters.

I've tried using Split and Join but it doesnt work.

Multivalue paramters are accessed in URL within the following schema:

Report_Param_Name=A&Report_Param_Name=B&Report_Param_Name=C

so AFAIK you would have to write some own sophisticated code to do this.

There is no special "select all" value.

If you have many values, maybe you should redesign your query/report so that you add a special value to the valid value list which has the implicit semantics of "select all" in your dataset.

(If you hit that URL as is, it runs fine, using the default parameter)

Now, I know that we have to escape the ampersand, so I'm thinking that this URL should do it.

But it doesn't - It throws a 400 Bad Request error.

I know I must be very close, but I just can't work out what URL I need to pass in order to get the damn thing to run.

I don't have very much experience with MDX params, but I might recommend escaping the periods or possibly the [brackets] too. Sorry I can't offer much more advice than that, but as in any debug scenario, try truncating the param string until you get something that works, then go from there!

Passing in query paramater values through WebUserControls

I don't want to pass in parameter values in the url to get a certain record from my database (for a better search engine result) so instead i'm using webuser controls (this is amust) with Public Values that should be read by the SqlDataSource. So in the page that contains the usercontrol there is something like:

UserControl.Value = "myvalue"

Now I want the SqlDataSource in the usercontrol to read this value and pass it into a query (in the parameter of the WHERE statement, eg.: @.recordID = myvalue).

You should create a public attribute in your user control(eg. below). When using the user control, regard it as a input parameter. In this way ,the parameter can be passed to the SqlDataSource in the user control.

how can i pass in long parameter into a report?
if i were to use url its just too short.
i want my users to select tons of numbers and pass it to RS. url parameter
access just does not seems right. does anyone have any advice for me?You could store the multiple values as rows in a db table, and assign a key
value which groups these together for the session. Then pass the key value
in as a parameter, the query could then use the key , and join the params
table to the orig table...

Currently we're using an application and the Report Viewer to "view"
our reports. One report that we need to generate is solely based on
the user's SalesRepCode. So what we want is that each user select a
report and then pass there SalesRepCode which we get from the
application, through the query string to Reporting Services to
generate that user's specific report. We don't want to give the user
the ability to use another user's SalesRepCode so we don't specify a
prompt for this parameter in the report parameters dialog boxes. This
is how I'm passing the SalesRepCode value to reporting services (I
know that the query string can be modified so the security on this is
weak. If you have an alternative solution I would love to hear it).
Is there anyway to pass in a parameter and not have it displayed on
the toolbar?

If you have SP1 then edit the parameter properties of the report via the
Report Manager and check "Prompt User" and clear out the value of "Prompt

I installed the SP1 and tried what you suggested. It still doesn't
work. When I go into the reports manager and select my report and
then select parameters from the left side the list of parameters
appears. For my parameter has default is checked but there is no
value in the default text box. Prompt user is unchecked and prompt
string is SalesRepCode:
I still get the same error stating that the parameter is readonly.

2) Remove the "SalesRepCode" value inside the "Prompt String" text field so
that the field is empty
3) Apply and try feeding the code via the query string.

I did what you said the first time. I removed the text in the "Prompt
String" text field, but when I pressed the "Apply" button I received a
warning for every other text box saying "A value is required." Because
all of my default text boxes were blank. Now I have
calculations/expressions for those default values in my reports so I
didnt' know exactly what to do so just for a test I placed default
values there and tried to submit the value via query string.
Unfortunatly I still receive a read-only error when I submit it. I
have installed the SP, I changed the parameters in the report manager.
Could it be another setting or maybe its machine specific?

BUT now is there any way to pass a parameter without using the query
string. The SalesRepCode I'm trying to pass is sensitive information
and I don't want it in the query string. If you've got any
suggestions I'd love to hear them.

Passing in a default parameter date via a URL

Hi Guys,

What is the syntax for passing in a default parameter of current date via a URL.

If you don't want to have to deal with IFormatProvider and DateTimeStyles of DateTime.Parse() method, then you can simply use the "MM/dd/yyyy" format. For example:

string dateToConvert = "12/25/2006";
DateTime today = DateTime.Parse(dateToConvert);

So, in your url, simply do: myPage.aspx?date=12/25/2006

Then retrieve the query string (Request.QueryString["date"]), check to make sure it's not null and not empty, and then finally convert it using the above mentioned DateTime.Parse(...).|||

Passing Field values in a URL

I need to pass field values to a URL when we click on a particular datavalue
on the Report. Basically I am trying to put up a URL on a column of the
report. And I would like to pass that corresponding column value dynamically.
Please someone let me know how to do that. At present I was trying to do
something like this that doesnt work :
http://serververname/WebForm2.aspx?param1=Fields!DATAKEY.value
where DATAKEY is one of my fields. But this doesnt help me pass the dynamic
values of that particular row. Please someone give me a idea.

you go into the texbox cell's properties and hit the "navigation" tab there
are several options to set up hyperlinks so that when you click on a cell on
the report you can automatically jump to a new URL. It looks like the URL
can be anything ... I'd be very surprized if you couldn't insert parameters
and field values in the the URL.

parameters and field values into the URL. You can build the expression but
the resulting URL simply contains the variable name you enter, not its value.

Passing a RS authentication ticket/cookie to browser?

Hello,
It looks like the best solution for deploying my reports is through the
hybrid solution of using both URL access (a url over the internet to
render the report) and SOAP API access (a web service call to
authenticate via Forms Authentication, and a custom security
extension).
I'm reasonably clear about how to implement my RS Web service proxy,
and to gain access to the authentication ticket/cookie passed back from
RS once I am authenticated. I'd like to pass this authentication
ticket to a browser so I can use URL Access for the rest of my RS
session. How do I go about doing this?
I want the browser to take advantage of the RS HTML Viewer tool for
report rendering.
My Web application that's using reporting services is not an ASP.NET
application.
Any ideas would be a great help.

ZeroVerticalI am not sure what exactly your application topology is. Where are you
making the LogonUser API call? In general, you have to do the same thing
that Forms Authentication sample does in order to move the cookie from the
server call to the browser. If you have two applications, they have to be on
the same domain.

Hi all..
I can't seem to get parameters to pass via an URL according to the
documentation..
http://certol/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fFSDBMR%2fManufacturing%2fPlanning+Data&Active_Obsolete_None_Filter=2
(btw Active_Obsolete_None_Filter is the parameter )
Is there something wrong with this syntax? It does bring up the report, but
it doesn't pass along the parameter... Any clues? I've tried several
different variations...

need to use reportserver, not reports. I.e.
http://yourserver/ReportServer?/YourFolder/YourReport&Param1=Param1Value
Note that parameters are case sensitive.

Passing a fields.name.value in the jump to url

I have a web page (asp) that I want to pass the field. value to the url.
ie. http://someinet/Corp/QMS/application/CIA/aspfiles/CIAView.asp?CIANum=4285
this works but i want them to click on a field

Passing a date report parameter on the URL

I'm trying to call a report I created (and deployed to our dev server -
running reporting services 2005), while passing the parameters on the URL.
I think I'm very close, but it doesn't seem to like the format that the date
is in. However, I've tried everything I can think of (surrounding the date
with quotes, double quotes, pound symbols, and every combination of those I
could think of), and yet I'm still getting the error "The value provided for
the report parameter 'StartDate' is not valid for its type.

The two "date" parameters are obviously set up as date types (especially as
when I browse to the report without passing parameters, it allows me to pick
the dates for each parameter, rather than just allowing text entry).

Passing & in the parametter

ReportViewer usese these two fuctions to build URL for the report. If the
parameter value contains â'&â' then ReportViewer returns error. Any idea how I
can resolve this issue?

I've got a stored procedure that my report uses as a datasource. One of the parameters for the stored procedure is an Integer called "OfficeTypes". The stored procedure checks if OfficeTypes is null, and if it is it returns every record. I want to hide the "OfficeTypes" input on the report and pass a null value on the URL, however I can't seem to do this. My url is as follows:
"http://...&OfficeType:isnull=true"
I get the error message: "An attempt was made to set a report parameter 'OfficeTypeID-NULL' that is not defined in this report".
If I change my URL to the following:
"http://...&OfficeType=null"
I get the error message:"The value provided for the report parameter 'OfficeTypeID' is not valid for its type."
So the question is, how can you set an Integer parameter for a report to null using the URL? All help is welcome. Thanks.

The problem that I am facing is, the fields returned by the stored procedure
are not getting listed in the fields window. I tried creating the fields
explicitly but it gave me an error that the required fields are not found in
the dataset.

the "Data" tab of your report, are you setting the command type to "Stored
Procedure" or are you setting it "Text" and calling the EXEC storedProcedure
command? If the command type is stored procedure, I'm not sure what to tell
you. Whenever I add a stored procedure this way the fields for the sp
automatically are added to the parameters list for my report, and thus show
up on the reports window. You could always add some parameters to the
reports parameter list and then edit the data set "Parameters" properties to
point to the properties you added. If you still have questions, explain more
about how and what you've done.

Passing "hidden parameter" to Report via URL

Hi,

We are trying to pass a parameter ("hidden from user") to our report which we
access via an URL. Has anyone done this successfully? If so please outline the steps
and we'll be greatful forever!

Note: We have the latest Reporting Services software SP2 installed.
We have MS SQL Server Standard Edition - and thus do not have Report Manager on our server.

Any parameters passed using the GET method (parameters over the URL) will be visible to the user. One option you have is encrypting the value before sending it.

We have latest version of Reporting Services SP2, and MS SQL Server 2000 standard version.|||OK. Found the answer:
1) Make sure Reporting Services SP2 is installed.
2) Set up the report as if the user will be selecting /entering the parameter value.
3) Make sure the Report runs correctly.
4) Go back into the Report Designer and change the prompt string to one blank.
5) Test in designer (the parameter name will be used as a default prompt).
6) Deploy
7) Run report - passing parameter in the URL. This works, and you will not see a prompt.|||
